Spain: outbreak of new avian flu strain in a layer farm

The Spanish agricultural authorities reported an outbreak of a new highly pathogenic strain (H7) of avian influenza.

The outbreak appeared on a layer hen farm in Guadalajara in central Spain, with four production houses and a breeding house. Two production houses were clinically affected, 30,000 birds died and all susceptible birds were killed and destroyed.

Other measures: farm standstill, a 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone, clinical inspections on farms in the area.
