Bluetongue found in Israel

On a farm in Israel the bluetongue virus has been found in a cattle herd.
In a herd  of 50 animals in Hazafon (Bet Hillel, Tsefat) some 20 animals have been found carrying the virus. One cow had died.
 
The strain found (serotype 5) had never been diagnosed in Israel. The outbreak occurred in the north of the country. The serotyping was done in the Pirbright Laboratory.
