Adjusting cow udder for milking robot not allowed

//31 Mar 2010
Adapting the udders of dairy cows so they can be milked easily by a robot is prohibited. The Dutch veterinary practice that performed this operation and the three farmers who concerned this received a warning.

The surgery does not appear in the intervention decision and is thus prohibited. A vet can can only carry out a surgery when there is a veterinary need.

In the case of re-positioning the udder to fit the milking robot, there seems no valid reason for surgery, according to Dutch Agriculture Minister Gerda Verburg.
